Broward County (Florida) Sheriff Al Lamberti Fundraiser event
On Thursday, September 27, 2012, we dropped by a fundraiser for Sheriff Al Lamberti at Sunfish Grill Restaurant in Fort Lauderdale.
Along with members of the fundraising elite and supporters, Karen Harrington (R) was also invited to attend the fundraising event. After winning the Republican primary, Karen Harrington is set to face incumbent Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D) in November for the 23rd Congressional District, which stretched from Weston to Hollywood and down to Miami Beach.
The crowd stood around tables and along the bar at the restaurant waiting for Al Lamberti’s speech.
Beginning his speech, Sheriff Lamberti said, “It is with a heavy heart to report that Deputy Christopher Schaub died as a result of his injuries in motorcycle accident in the line of duty. He was a 22-year veteran of the agency. Please take a moment to go to the Broward Sheriff’s Office website and view our brief tribute. Please keep the family of Deputy Schaub, especially his son, a fellow BSO deputy, in your thoughts and prayers.”

Sheriff Al Lamberti is the first countywide politician to get on the ballot through petitions. Last time, he said, his campaign had to spend $11,000 for a spot. The alternative is collecting signed petitions — 12,000 of them — and turning them in to the supervisor of elections. He collected a record 16,000 petitions.
“My biggest fear is complacency,” said Lamberti. “People tell me to always act like I’m 10 percent behind...I humbly ask for your support in my campaign, and I look forward to continuing to serve the citizens of Broward County with Pride in Service with Integrity.”
“Keep Al Lamberti” bumper stickers were available at a table near the front. Regarding the stickers, Sheriff Lamberti said, “They’re vinyl, not paper, so if you have a BMW or a Ferrari, they’ll peel right off in November.
